By late 1962 the success of the S Series Continental Bentleys entered its third and final chapter, with the introduction of the S3 Continental. The major cosmetic change was the introduction of the twin headlight system, providing Bentley drivers with more illumination. Mechanically speaking the S3 Continental was very similar to the S2 Continental, but benefited from having larger carburettors fitted and an upgraded power steering system. The success of the Vilhelm Koren designed Bentley S2 Continental had pleased the powers that be at Park Ward and his design was adapted for the S3 Continental chassis, with the introduction of twin headlights. The coachwork did not lend itself happily to horizontal headlights so they were instead positioned on a slight slant, a design that has commonly become known as the Chinese Eye. Chassis No BC130XC which we are currently offering for sale is one of fifty eight cars built in right hand drive to Design No 2006 by Mulliner/Park Ward on the S3 Continental chassis. It was originally ordered by Mr G.R. Kennerley of Cheshire through retailer J Cockshoot Ltd of Manchester. It was completed and delivered in July of 1964, finished in Astral blue with a grey leather interior and grey roof. Over fifty years later the car still very much resembles its original livery, aside from the now white roof which was trimmed and fitted during the present ownership. The current owner acquired BC130XC some thirty years ago in the United States and brought the car back to the UK where it has resided ever since. His own personal mechanic has looked after the car during this time, having it ready at all times as and when he wanted to use the car. It presents very well and drives as one would expect. It is complete with some history documents collated over the past thirty years, copy chassis cards, small and large tools and correct original manual with the S3 Continental supplement. This particular model seems to grow in popularity by the year and we are very pleased to have this very attractive example for sale at the moment.
